Windcrest Farm is a commercial cow calf operation maintaining a small herd of select cows and heifers. Our goal is to produce cattle with good carcass traits and high rates of growth. With this in mind we have based our cow herd selection with an emphasis on feed and maternal efficiency, good milk production, calving ease with low to moderate birth weights, fertility and soundness. We strive to produce and maintain hardy, maternal females that are predictable and problem free.

We originally started out as a small seedstock operation, after a few years we decided to start cross breeding our Hereford and Hereford cross females to Registered Black Angus bulls and things took off from there. We now cross breed the majority of our Angus, Hereford and Black Baldy females by artificial insemination to some of the industries top Black Angus and Simmental bulls. These bulls have brought into our herd some of the best genetics the industry has to offer. Our cattle have proven performance records thanks to their strong genetic backgrounds, maternal efficiency and soundness, with many still producing calves into their teens. Although we breed extensively by A.I. we maintain a registered Black Angus herd bull on the farm for clean up and to breed to select cows.

We sell feeders and heifers in the fall and market our cattle by private treaty at the farm, at local sales and through the Value Discovery Program. We are located in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York State. To read more click here.

Each year we consign a few steers to the Feedlot and Value Discovery Program at Cornell University to gather information on our breeding program. If you would like more information on this program click here.

- Performance on Forage -

We implement rotational grazing with our cattle performing exceptionally well on pasture and forage with minimal grain.
